HND CA Community Roundtables - May 2012

HND convened Community Roundtables across the Central Valley in California from April 30, 2012 to May 4, 2012. We were able to meet with over 120 community members, leaders and advocates from multiple generations in Sacramento, Fresno and Merced. We presented recent data on the Hmong American community from the Census 2010 and recent American Community Survey data as well as preliminary data on financial trends for Hmong-serving and Hmong-led non-profits in CA, MN and WI. All of this will be included in our State of the Hmong American Community Census Report, which will be out later this Fall, as well as our report on our assessment of Hmong communities and organizations in CA, MN and WI, which will be out towards the end of 2012.

Special thanks to all who assisted with or hosted the roundtables: HERO (Hmong Empowerment Resources & Outreach; our local partner for the HND Conference 2013 in Fresno), HND Board Member Paul Lo, Yav Pem Suab Academy, Hmong Women's Heritage Association, FIRM, Fresno Center for New Americans, Fresno State Hmong Students Association, Ge Her, Youa Lee, and the Fresno Regional Foundation for its generous support.

Below are documents which were presented at the roundtables that are available for download. HND encourages all who are interested to use this data and information for your benefit and to continue educating others about the current state of our community. (Click link below to download)

HND will be hosting a webinar on this presentation for those across the country who are interested to participate. Information will be forthcoming. Sign up on our mailing list to keep updated by clicking HERE.

HND Community forum

On October 4, 2011, Hmong National Development hosted a Community Forum on Leadership held in St. Paul, MN. Over 40 community members were present in person and via conference call. Reports were presented on the HND Leadership Symposium held in conjunction with the HND Conference in April 2011, as well as the results of a recent study HND completed on Hmong-led non-profits across the United States.

There was productive discussion regarding the nonprofit sector, the trends that are shaping current work within the Hmong community, as well as how to think differently about this work and services provided.

Below are the reports, handouts and PowerPoint presentation from the forum, available for download and distribution:

We were pleased to have the Hmong Broadcasting Company (HBC TV) on site to record the presentation. You can view the 1 hour presentation below or via Youtube by clicking HERE
